Urban Couch

Design Museum Boston
Street Seat Challenge 2013

Process
The chosen name Urban Couch refers to the street seat as a joining element between the “new hub” and the South Boston area, recalling a lounge atmosphere where everyone can feel comfortable and easy. Urban Couch hosts more people, so we envisioned its functioning with a double orientation of the seats: this draws to an easy interaction between users and thanks to the evolving shape of the tube, invites them to sit down and lean against the seatback/arm, like if they were on a couch.

Materials
Urban Couch is made from one single bent and powder coated galvanized iron tube in different colors. A fir structure is built around the tube to support the recycled wooden slats, obtained from the disassembly of pallets, scrap wood and formworks.
